Workshop
Objectives: A complex web of interconnected processes
links both steady and dynamic phenomena at the Sun to corresponding
effects at Earth, the other planets, and throughout the heliosphere.
Unraveling the nature of these interactions offers an opportunity
to identify and understand the fundamental scientific principles
governing the plasma universe. Of equal importance, it can enable
us to predict and mitigate the effects of the constantly varying
solar output on the the planetary environment, spacecraft and
astronauts traveling between the planets, spacecraft in the Earth's
radiation belts, and ionospheric communications.
The pace
of discovery has accelerated over the course of the space age and
we are now poised to make discoveries that will have a direct impact
on human endeavors. This workshop will provide a snapshot of where
we stand now, identify promising new lines of research, and provide
a venue to identify prospective paths for international cooperation
to address the most critical research problems and societal needs.

Variable Interior
Variable Atmosphere
Variable Heliosphere
